Southbank Nighttime Riverside Walk

Long time no post but I’m finally back. Found one of the joys of living in London is the website/app Meetup. If I’m ever bored one evening, I just log on and find something to do. Ended up out with Become an Artist-London (Lovely group of people)  walking around Southbank one evening with my Ricoh GR and a tripod. Figured my APS-C sensor wouldn’t shoot high ISO too well so ended up messing around with long exposures. Most of the pictures below had shutter speeds of between 4-8 seconds. Loved it, especially when photographing people as the camera captured a ghostly after image of walking pedestrians.r0004212r0004273r0004275r0004326r0004364r0004377r0004386r0004393

Laser cut tag holder for Fuel3D

I was kindly given a 3D scanner by Fuel3D as part of their ambassador program yesterday. The scanner relies on a small QR code like tag to allow the scanner to track location, which needs to be held near the object or face you’re scanning. Decided to quickly knock up a laser cut tag holder for when I start scanning faces. As usual, the files are free to download here and the Onshape page is here if you want to modify it.

Art Gym- Build a Pinhole Camera

Guessing it’s all official, I’ll be running a pair of pinhole camera building workshops for the next 2 Sundays at Tate Liverpool.

Since posting last, I’ve redesigned the camera a bit and tested it out. Decided to add a tripod mount using a 1/4-20 nut and a pair of strap loops. Takes me about half an hour to construct one using masking tape, glue and a bit of sandpaper so there should be easily enough time in a 3 hour session for everyone to build their’s.  52861.jpeg

Tate Liverpool Pinhole Camera Project

So since I last posted, I’ve started working with Tate Liverpool to work in a series of pinhole photography workshops. part of this is having attendees build their own pinhole cameras. Figured I wanted to do something a bit different from the usual single shot 4×5″ box camera so started designing a 35mm version. Decided to laser cut it out of 3mm plywood and managed to fit the entire thing on a single sheet of 30x30cm ply to make manufacturing easier.

Took the files down to my local makerspace and borrowed one of their laser cutters and knocked up the prototype in an afternoon.

Running film through it at the moment to test out film types and pinhole size and shapes. I’ll make sure to post the results when I get it perfected.

Japan on film

Being the genius I am, I almost lost all the negatives I shot in Japan after leaving them on the bus before I had scanned them. Picked them up at the bus depo today (after giving them box of biscuits as a thanks). Got some photos really like, and seem to be keeping my 1 in 10 keeper rate while shooting film. Far better than the same rate I shot on my Ricoh while I was there.
